Men Among Animals - Meth Reloaded song review

When a clip-clop of temple blocks is swiftly followed by gigantic sonorous booms, it is immediately clear that the latest single from Danish noise-poppers Men Among Animals is entering new territory. And judging by the terrifying din of those thunderous drums, it seems the band is taking it by force.

Not since John Bonham pounded out beats from the bottom of a stairwell on When the Levee Breaks, has such an exhilarating drum sound been committed to record and Meth Reloaded is indicative of the increasing experimentation that characterized Men Among Animals’ second album Run Ego.

As singer Lasse Nielsen’s creepy falsetto voice slinks over the tremendous background and a guitar’s plain chords blend neatly in, a faint melody slowly builds. The vocals erupt into addictively repeated frenzied shrieks as the unruly medieval marching band continues to unleash its sound and fury with vocals and effects layered on top like corpses piling up on a bloody battleground.

Finally the grand denouement unfurls in a fervent blast of unruly noise and Meth Reloaded emerges victorious. Tremble before its mighty bass.
