Martin Scorsese is currently working on the pilot for a new HBO series, Boardwalk Empire – a crime drama by The Sopranos’ writer Terence Winter. If he’s looking for a dirty riff wearing, fast beat thumping piece of grimy country rock to become the iconic soundtrack to the opening credits – a la Alabama 3’s Woke Up This Morning – then he could do worse than check out the new single from Belfast four piece Cashier No. 9.
When Jackie Shone has the moody guitars and menacing vocals required, and the hypnotic riff should ensure it remains appealing even by series five. The neat percussion and handclaps bear the hallmarks of producer David Holmes, so perhaps it’s not too surprising the song has a touch of the cinematic about it.
